What is Structural Integration?
Structural Integration is based on Ida Rolf's finding and scientific research. SI has been further developed by Thomas Myers in the 1990's. Structural Integration focuses not on the muscles but on their protective layer, called fascia (connection tissue), and the deeper layers of fascia through the muscles. Muscles are contracting tissues that give the body and organs physical movemnet. The fascia gives muscles their shape and the body structure.
Structural Integration re-aligns the tissue of the body by balancing and re-positioning superficial and deep connective tissue. Myofascial Release works with the deep layer of fascia which are stuck or held in compensatory positons. The continuing pull of gravity, stress of daily activites and physical injuries can pull the body out of alignment. This creates ineffeciency and imbalances resulting in stiffness, discomfort, pain and loss of energy.
How can Structrual Integration help you?
- With better alignment the body moves with greater ease, and requires less energy to function.
- Good posture is effortless and breathing is easier.
- The body becomes more flexible, coordinated and daily body performance improves with better alignment.
- SI is about re-tuning our bodies to regain effiecient movement patterns in aligned balance.
